Love them or hate them “B” movies have become the steady workhorse of the horror genre. They are cheap, poorly acted, weak plotted and more often that not the seventh sequel to a huge hit over a decade ago. However, every now and again along comes a “B” movie that grabs our attention, a film that rises above its lack of script, budget and acting talent to become beloved. It becomes beyond criticism, falling into one of 2 categories. The first is the hardest category to achieve, that of cult status despite having nothing going for it. Whilst the movie is not critically acclaimed or probably even that good it becomes accepted to the fans as a work of art. A masterpiece of bad cinematic history that rises above it all to gain the title of “so bad it’s good”. An example of this would be “Blood Diner” a terrible movie that pushes all the right buttons. The second category is much more attainable to the common “B” stinker. That is that of a movie that its weaknesses are over looked by the fans because the movie is just so damn entertaining. Prime example of this would be “Army of Darkness”. ...

Rose's daughter Sharon suffers from nightmarish trances where she refers to a ghost town.  With each nightmare getting worse and worse, Rose decides to take her daughter to the only place she can think of, the town of Silent Hill.  While on the road to Silent Hill, she gets mixed up in a police chase which ends in a wreck for both Rose and the police officer, Cybil.  Rose wakes up to find her daughter missing.  She sets out through the town to find her daughter, companied by Cybil.  Soon, the two discover the dark secrets of the town once the sirens start and the nightmare begins. Going in to Silent Hill I was expecting the worst.  The trailers looked awful and I had no intentions of sitting through another video game made horror film.  Uwe Boll has given us enough of those.  However, when I found out that Christophe Gans was the director, seeing that I really liked his last film Brotherhood of the Wolf, I knew I should at least check this out.  Not to mention the fact that Roger Avery wrote the script and his stuff is usually pretty good as well.  With those two I figured it ...

So just what goes on in the mind of a bulimic stripper turned prostitute when she is down and out?  Well the answers to that question and so much more are revealed in Slaughtered Vomit Dolls.  Angela Aberdeen is the aforementioned prostitute that is constantly passing between her reality and her dreams.  In these dreams we are introduced to the Slaughtered Vomit Dolls which are manifestations of the ongoing struggles in Angela’s mind.  These dolls are executed throughout the film as Angela sinks further and further into darkness.  Early on Angela makes a pact with the devil for her soul and from that point she begins her descent into these nightmares.  Where will these hallucinogenic bouts take her and what will become of her fleeting existence? Slaughtered Vomit Dolls is written and directed by Lucifer Valentine.  While this may be his first film(at least that I have heard of), you wouldn’t know from watching it.  Valentine captures the constant pushing and pulling going on in Angela’s mind.  Scenes of coherent reality(mostly from her childhood) are immediately followed with chaotic terror that further creates the frenzied environment of the film.  While most independent horror films are filled with wooden performances and cheesy ...

In this film, the fifth addition to the “Child’s Play” series of films, we find the infamous killer dolls (Chucky and his wife, Tiffany) in Hollywood. Not only is the location different, but there is a new addition to the Ray family – Glen. Some time between “Bride of Chucky” and this film, Tiffany had a baby that she did not know about. It is undecided as to whether it is a boy or a girl, as it does not have any private parts. Being a ventriloquist dummy, owned by a bastard in England, it hopes that by finding its parents, it will be able to find out what its true gender is.  When the doll child ends up finding his parents, Chucky and Tiffany, by seeing them on Entertainment Tonight, and noticing that they have the same “Made in Japan” mark that he/she has, it decides to fly to Hollywood. This not only brings a great change to both Chucky and Tiffany’s lives, but it also throws a wrench into their lifestyle of killing. That is due to the fact that their child, later named “Glen,” does not want to be a killer, and that ends up forcing Tiffany ...

Now this is the way to view Suspiria!  People have said they hated this DVD because Anchor Bay messed up the sound.  Well I don't know how it sounded when it was in theaters or anywhere else because I only saw it once on VHS a long time ago.  When I saw it on DVD it was like seeing it for the first time.   This time I viewed the movie with surround sound and I thought the sound was excellent.  The soundtrack really came at you from all angles, completely surrounding you.  The picture quality was very good, but I noticed a bit of grain in some dark scenes.  But it was nothing that would ruin the DVD.  As you can tell it is loaded with extras.  Goblin's soundtrack with this movie makes it all the better.   I liked the U.S. Trailer much better then the International Trailer because it was more of a trailer then the other one was.  It has some nice extras.  The first disc is sold separately as the regular Suspiria DVD.  But on the Limited Edition you get a 52 minute Documentary that is very interesting.  People said they have seen this Documentary many times ...

Artisan Entertainment brings us Dario Argento's newest film, Sleepless, on DVD here in the U.S.  The sound quality is decent.   The Goblin soundtrack really plays well on this DVD and really helps in building suspense in this film.  The picture quality is, well not good at all.  It looks like a VHS of an 80's film.  Also, the DVD is presented in Full Screen.  At first when I first started buying DVD's I really wanted them to be in Full Screen, but I've been collecting DVD's for years now and I would much rather have it in Widescreen.   It is just something you would expect in a DVD, and if it has a Full Screen format added to the DVD, then there is usually a Widescreen transfer as well and I always found myself watching the Widescreen version instead of the Full Screen version.  Now, as for the special feature on this DVD, we get trailers for Sleepless, Children of the Living Dead, Center of the World, The Item, and Twin Peaks Season 1 DVD Box Set.  That is pretty much it on the special features.  I remember when we first started hearing about this DVD that there would be ...

I had never seen all the Sleepaway Camp films until I bought this box set.  I didn't even know they attempted to make a part four.  Though I do know they are working on another part four right now.  Anyway, I had seen the original a couple of months ago and I really liked it, and when I heard they were making a box set I knew I had to get it, plus since they were adding the fourth disc featuring footage from the fourth unfinished movie. Sleepaway Camp: The DVD of Sleepaway Camp is just like the single release DVD that was released a year ago.  The only difference is that it has a different cover art on the disc.  The picture quality isn't all that bad.  It's pretty clear, but I noticed some grain in a few places.  It is presented in a widescreen 1.85:1 aspect ratio.  The sound on it is pretty good considering that it's in mono.  But it doesn't turn anyone away from this DVD. Program Power Entertainment brings us Slaughterhouse, the first in their Lucky 13 Cult Collectibles line.  An old hog farmer and his son Buddy, a 360 pound man who grunts and squeals and loves to slice people apart with his meat cleaver, have their farm closed down after they refuse to sell their land.  When Buddy kills an unsuspecting teenage couple for messing with his hogs, old man Bacon starts to see a better use for Buddy.  He lures the people responsible for closing his farm into the old slaughterhouse with the intent of having Buddy kill them.  Unfortunately, this is also the setting for a horror movie a group of teens are filming. When Buddy sets his sights on them, a fun film shoot quickly turns into a gruesome blood bath. I was really surprised by this film.  I had heard a few negative things about this movie and to tell you the truth, I wasn't really sure what to expect. When I finished watching it, I realized that this was a damn good movie.  It had everything that a good slasher should have: A crazy killer, savage and shocking deaths scenes, lots of gore, a good story and good acting.  ...

MGM brings us The Silence of the Lambs on DVD.  This is the third version of Silence of the Lambs to come out on DVD.  Though I have never seen the other two because I kept putting off buying them, I think that this one is probably the best version.  Sadly there are two versions of this DVD as well.  One is the Widescreen version and the other is the Full Screen version.  So when I went and bought mine I made sure it was the widescreen version.  I don't know but for some reason I would rather see my DVD's in Widescreen.  When I first started to collect them I wanted them to be in Full Screen because that was the way I was used to on VHS, but after watching so many DVD's and them all being in Widescreen I think that it's the only way to watch the movie.  So if you care about it being in either Widescreen or Full Screen, be sure to check underneath where it says "Special Edition" on the top and make sure it says either "Widescreen" or "Full Screen."  But overall the DVD is great.  The picture quality is excellent, though ...

Since I didn't get the chance to see Session 9 in theaters I had to wait for the DVD release.  Well, it was worth the wait for the movie, now how did they do with the DVD?  Well, there is a really good picture quality, except at the very beginning of the film there is a little bit of grain in the dark scenes.  But overall the picture quality is really good.  The surround sound on this DVD is also very good.  There are some deleted scenes, but I really didn't find them of much interest.  There is also an alternate ending, though I didn't like it very much.  I like the way the film ended in the movie.  The featurette, The Haunted Palace, is quite an interesting look behind the scenes, as well as the Story to Screen, which is another feature that brings you behind the scenes.   There is also a director's commentary, and I must say, watching the film with the director's commentary on after viewing it once before is a really good idea.  The director cleared up all my questions and pointed out quite a bit of clues that I never noticed before.  Though I wouldn't ...
