Thousands of years ago there was a great war between the warriors of light and the warriors of dark. Seeing that the two sides were evenly matched, a truce was formed. One thing about this box set, is that seeing them in this format, it has really improved my interest in the series.  When I first heard they were releasing all seven of the classic Nightmare on Elm Street films on DVD in a box set I quickly preordered my copy of this.  I never really was a fan of part 5, and I had never seen part 2.  After viewing this box set I found myself enjoying part 5 and I found myself enjoying part 2.  The surround sound on these movies is amazing.   The picture quality is by far the best I have seen for these films.  Sadly part 5 is the regular "R" rated version instead of the Unrated version, but don't let that stop you from getting this box set.  I bought this thing back in 1999 when it first came out, and after 2 years this still holds as my favorite box set and my favorite DVD to have purchased.  The 8th disc will keep you entertained for hours.   I'm still not sure if I've seen everything that this DVD has to offer.  The 8th disc is a maze where you go through and find all ...

In the 1830's, Hutter, the young clerk of a real estate agent, leaves his wife Nina in order to conduct the sale of some property with the mysterious Count Orlock in Transylvania.  He falls in the clutches of the Count but escapes.  Leaving his castle with a number of earth-filled coffins, the Count travels by ship to Bremen.   The entire crew of the ship dies, and when it arrives in the port a swarm of rats descends upon the city.  Meanwhile, Hutter has returned to Nina with his tale of the Count.  She resolves to destroy the vampire by keeping him at her bedside until sunrise, when the sun's rays will destroy the monster's body, I'm not a big fan of the Silent genre of horror, but as far as this one goes, it's really a good movie.  It's only an hour, which is good because it has absolutely no sound, unless you get a copy of "Nosferatu: The First Vampire" which has music throughout the whole movie played by Type-O-Negative, which makes the movie a lot more enjoyable.  In the version that I have, there is no sound and the Count goes by the name Count Dracula.  This is the ...

Clive Barker, the creator of Hellraiser and Candyman, brings us Nightbreed.   Nightbreed is the story of a guy named Boone, who is played by Craig Sheffer.   Boone is having nightmares of this place called Midian.  He tells about his dreams and about the murders he's seen in his dream only to find out that he has been telling in graphic detail exactly what happened in actual murders.  Now he is suspected as being the killer.  He is chased down to Midian where he is killed at the gates, only then to become a member, and a leader of the Nightbreed. I have always been a fan of Clive Barker.  His movies are always something special.   And Nightbreed proves itself to stand up there with his classics as "Hellraiser" and "Candyman."  It opens up with us seeing a family murdered by a guy with a mask.  Later on we see that Boone is being blamed for the murders only to find out that the real killer is the one who is framing him.  There is no real secret as to who the real killer is because we know from the start.   Eventually the killer gets Boone killed at the gates of Midian, ...

A police officer investigates the crimes of a knife-wielding killer who is beheading people who attend a certain night school.  The beheading is part of the killer's belief because the killer has to remove the head of their victim and place it inside water. Not a bad 80's slasher film.  This film shows us Rachel Ward's film debut.  It starts off with this girl riding on a thing that spins at a playground.  The girl attends a night school.  A killer wearing biker clothing comes up and cuts off the victim's head.  After that we watch as more and more people get their heads chopped off.  This film doesn't contain a lot of gore, but it does have its moments.   Like the waitress who gets her head chopped off.  And the lady who's head is found in the toilet in the bathroom.  Those moments really make this film stand out.   This is a film that you'd just have to see for yourself to see if you will like it.   I enjoyed it, but not everyone does.  I give this film a 6 out of 10.

Hell of the Living Dead, also known as Night of the Zombies, is about a New Guinea chemical accident that is bringing the dead back to life.   As the dead are roaming around on New Guinea, some news reporters and a SWAT team enter in hopes to see it for themselves.  Soon they are attacked by the zombies and they have to fight for their lives. I have heard so many negative reviews for this film and plenty of positive reviews, and when I heard that Anchor Bay was releaseing it on DVD for under 15 bucks I knew I had to have it.  Mainly because I am a zombie fan.   Well after viewing this film I found that I really enjoyed it.  Sure, there are plenty of things that could make this film bad, the horrible dubbing, the cheesy acting, the part where the film becomes a cannibal film instead of a zombie film.   I'm not really one who likes cannibal movies, I prefer a zombie film.  There are also some good things about this movie, for instance this is one gory movie.  The gore doesn't stop until the movie is over.  The zombies in this film aren't that bad ...

Seven strangers are trapped in an isolated farmhouse while cannibalistic zombies wage a relentless attack, killing (and eating) everyone in their path. In this remake of the 1968 classic we see pretty much the same thing.  Barbara takes action and tries to fight off the zombies in this one, which I didn't like.  I like it better in the original when Barbara just set on the couch in a state of shock.   One good thing about this remake is that Tony Todd stars in it.  I give it 4 out of 10.
