Joseph is a bit of an unstable man who witnessed his father kill his mother when he was a child. Joseph is now a grown man, but is haunted by homicidal visions that leave him unsure as to whether or not he has committed the crime. When a young woman, Anna, comes into Joseph's life, he realizes that he doesn't want to hurt her, and he sends him further into madness than he ever believed possible.
The movie opens with a bizarre title sequence. The music in this scene reminded me of the 1974 horror flick, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Joseph is soon having a dream of his mother, and when he wakes up he finds himself outside, sitting beside a tree. When an old man starts to talk to him, Joseph kills the guy. Later on, Joseph's neighbors begin to annoy him, and when the man hits his wife, Joseph goes over there to take matters into his own hands. Soon, Joseph meets Anna and realizes that there is more to life than what he has already seen. He wants to be with Anna, but doesn't want to hurt her.
